The 2008 (Third) Museum and Related Products and Technologies Expo (referred to as"Museum Expo") will be held from November 29 to December 1, 2008 at the National Agriculture Exhibition Center in Beijing. This Museum Expo was approved by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, co-sponsored by the Chinese Museums Association, the China Association of Natural Science Museums and Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, and organized by the China Agricultural Museum.
Museum Expo has been successfully held twice in Beijing in 2004 and 2006. It has produced a wide range of positive influences both at home and abroad as the only brand exhibition in the Chinese museum industry today. Once every two years, it is a large-scale and comprehensive industry event featuring museum-related achievements, technologies, and products as well as exhibitions, exchanges, and cooperation. When Jacques Perot, the former chairman of the International Council of Museums, visited the first session of the Expo, he praised it as "the largest technology and product exhibition in the museum industry in the world today!"
This Museum Expo include five aspects: the first batch of national first-class museums and the exchange of presentation and exhibitions of museums with Chinese and foreign characteristics, museum-related products and technology exhibitions, 2008 Beijing International Museum Curator Forum, and museum-related technical exchanges, seminars and experts' treasure activities. At that time, officials of the Central Government of China, the management and experts of the International Council of Museums, and heads of business, tourism, and cultural circles of Chinese and foreign museums, will visit the Museum Expo. The organizing committee will conduct all-round publicity and reporting on this important cultural event in the international museum community through various media.
With the increasing economic capabilities of China, museums are increasingly receiving the attention of the government and the society. In recent years, the Chinese government has continuously increased its investment in museum culture and built or expanded many large-scale museums. At present, the total number of various kinds of museums in the country has exceeded 2,300. During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, a large number of museums, science and technology centers, and historical and cultural sites will be built and expanded throughout the country, which will provide unprecedented development and opportunity for museums and related industries in China!
